Hello & Welcome

Thanks for being here.

My essays explore the personal, social, cultural, political and spiritual - I reflect on and include teachings that can help us navigate life’s ups and downs, pressures and pleasures. In doing so, I draw primarily on the Buddha Dharma and Yogic practice/philosophy, as well as literary and musical teachings, all of which underpin my own life and work.

I believe (because I’ve seen it happen, in my own pages and through the work of people I admire as well as those I work with) that to write is an act of creativity, release, commitment and awe. It’s about caring to ponder, to cultivate and invite compassion and relatability.

You can expect to hear from me roughly twice a month, sometimes more, sometimes less. I tried sticking to a rigid schedule when I started blogging many moons ago but I found that to be constricting; it limited rather than facilitated the flow of thoughtful ideas. So as and when I’ve got something to say that I feel worth sharing, you’ll hear about it.

That’s largely why I write and what I write about - the importance and interrelational benefits of sharing from a place of experience, contemplation, discernment, skill and insight. That, and the process/practice of using writing as a medium for finding clarity in our thought processes.

My intention/hope is that some of the ideas and insights into my own practice around this (I’ve been doing this for many years, as a writer, editor, teacher and mentor) might inspire your own.

It’s the sense of wanting to inquire and understand, more than the search for absolute answers or certainty that moves me. In fact, I think the latter can lead us into a trap of rigid thinking and limiting views, closing more doors than it opens. Although of course, it can be a survival as much as a socialised instinct to find firm footing and reasons why people are the way they are and things appear as we find them.

But when it comes to nurturing and nourishing our individual and collective creative wellbeing, of keeping our hearts and our minds open as well as humble, I find it far more interesting, illuminating and enlivening to appreciate that there is so much I don’t know or understand – which is a portal to endless possibility.

I hope you enjoy and find something that interests you, piques your curiosity, challenges your thinking, and/or inspires you.

And if you want to work with me, I’m open to exploring potential collaborations for writing, editing and mentoring. Head to my website for more on that.
